History of Angkor Thom
Angkor Thom was established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, one of the most famous kings in Cambodian history. The name Angkor Thom means “Great City.” It served as the royal capital of the Khmer Empire and was surrounded by massive stone walls and a wide moat. Visitors can enter through magnificent gates decorated with giant faces and sculptures depicting ancient Khmer legends.
Discover Bayon Temple
Located in the center of Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple is famous for its remarkable stone towers decorated with enormous smiling faces. Built mainly during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, the temple reflects the artistic achievements and religious traditions of the Khmer Empire.
